AIKEN – The dog accused of attacking a North Augusta 6-year-old girl earlier this week has been euthanized.

Aiken County Animal Control Chief Officer Bobby Arthurs said the pit bull dog, which was stabbed by a 10-year-old boy trying to save the girl’s life, was euthanized at the Ark Animal Hospital due to the severity of his injuries.

“The dog was not going to make it, so the owners signed the dog over to us,” Mr. Arthurs said.

Animal Control could file charges against the dog owner for dangerous animal or an animal creating a nuisance, Mr. Arthurs said. He said he could not go into detail on who owned the dog pending the ongoing investigation.

“We don’t know if it was an unprovoked attack at this point,” Mr. Arthurs said.

Fredrick Wallace, the girl's father, is the owner of the euthanized pet, according to Aiken County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Dave Myers. The sheriff's office will not file charges, Sgt. Myers said.

The incident occured Tuesday when the two children, who have not been identified, were alone around 3 p.m. at Mr. Wallace's home in the 200 block of Ashley Circle, Sgt. Myers said.

Mr. Wallace left the children briefly to purchase medicine for his daughter. Shortly after, she was bitten on her neck, cheek and chin, Sgt. Myers said. The boy punched and stabbed the dog with a steak knife, and later yelled for help. A neighbor was able to release the animal’s grip by hitting it with a chair.

As of Wednesday, the girl was recovering and in stable condition at the Medical College of Georgia Hospital and Clinics, Sgt. Myers said.

Where are the animal cruelty

Where are the animal cruelty charges against the boy? Stabbing the dog with a knife? Isn't that cruel? What if the girl was harassing the dog and he was just defending himself? (Insert the name of a PETA spokesidiot here.)

Sorry for the girl, sorry for

Sorry for the girl, sorry for the dog. People shouldn't have animals that are deliberately (man made) or naturally dangerous. Not fair to the people or the dog. I hope the little girl will be ok. What a brave 10 year old.

When are communities going to
Unpublished

When are communities going to really start enforcing the "Leash Law?" When somebody get's killed by a dog attack? Owners of these vicious dogs don't care. Why should they, enforcement of the law is a joke.

Humans who attack or harm

Humans who attack or harm children should be euthanized as well - not jailed at hard working taxpayers' expense. I am sorry for all involved in this particular story.
