Deputies arrested an armed robbery suspect found hiding under a bed inside an apartment on Fayetteville Drive Sunday night.

The victims told deputies they gave the suspect, 23-year-old Brandon James Henderson of 2364 Dublin Drive, a ride to Avery Point Apartments, according to a Richmond County Sheriff’s report.

When they arrived, Mr. Henderson allegedly pointed a gun at them and stole cash. He then ran into a nearby apartment, the report said.

The victims showed deputies the apartment but no one would answer the door, the report said. The deputies kicked down the door and found Mr. Henderson hiding under a bed in an upstairs bedroom.

The offender sounds pathetic

The offender sounds pathetic and his brushes with the law began minor but escalated. Our criminal justice system needs more mental health people involved in the earliest encounter with minor offenders. Identify the offenders with mental health problems and steer them toward mental health treatment. Treating their mental health problems is certainly cheaper than locking them up later. Some can be rescued.
