State representative to be sworn in

Earnest G. Smith will be sworn in Tuesday as representative to the Georgia House Disctrict 122 seat.

Mr. Smith, who ran unopposed, will take the oath at 2 p.m. in Courtroom No. 2 on the second floor of the Augusta-Richmond County Municipal Building on Greene Street, according to his election committee.

Mr. Smith formerly was on the Augusta Aviation Commission. He is filling the seat vacated by Rep. Hardie Davis to run for Ed Tarver’s Senate seat. Mr. Tarver was named a U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Georgia.
