A woman died this afternoon after being stabbed during an altercation in Cherry Tree Crossing housing project, and the Richmond County Sheriff’s department said they have another woman in custody as a suspect.

Lt. Scott Peebles said Courtney Smith, 18, is facing a murder charge in the death of Melissa House, 21, of Blakeley Street. The incident occurred after 3 p.m. inside a home on the 1400 block of Tobias Court, and the victim was pronounced dead at the Medical College of Georgia Hospital at 3:25 p.m. today, Deputy Coroner Johnny McDonald said.

“All I can tell you is she had multiple stab wounds on the left side of her body,” he added.

Ms. House’s body will be taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s crime lab in Augusta on Wednesday morning.

It is very difficult to do

It is very difficult to do lifesaving CPR on a victim with a stab wound to the heart. I offer KUDO's and sympathy to the ones who first responded and tried to save her.

Marien, are you really a

Marien, are you really a teacher? And, there will be no riots or protests. Killing in the projects is apparently ok, because all the indignant ministers and residents of the projects utter nary a peep when we have black on black crime. But, if the police kill someone, now that's a different story.

So sad. Until our community

So sad. Until our community as a whole supports law enforcement, strong punishment for criminals of all races and takes a pro-active approach to crime, this will continue on a daily basis. As for the black leaders and preachers, most are a sham and a disgrace to their race. They betray the ones whom they are suppose to look after and only try to grab headlines to make theirselves look better when law enforcement or some other agency is forced to take action. They continually support black criminals over law enforcement even when the victims are black and it is pathetic. These tragedies do not need to occur and people need to do more than march and shout. They need to demand an end to crime, report criminals, ensure their youth are getting a good education, work with the schools, churches, police and other agencies in a pro-active manner to prevent crime and have organized activities for youth. They should support drug testing and inspections of government housing and request a strong police presence. They should do everything possible to keep out the bad elements of society and stop looking the other way....maybe one day....

Where's all the camera's now?

Where's all the camera's now? Its time to take out the trash Augusta. Two third's of the people we give public housing to are criminals. These are the same people we have to give free medical to. They take and take and take.

Asis, how shameful of you to

Asis, how shameful of you to use this incident to talk about black preachers and the black community. Your commentary only reveal you have problems with blacks who have different viewpoints. As far as we know, this is not police shooting or protest. This is just an unfortunate crime by a wayward youth.Using it to take cheap shots at others don't speak so well of you.Save the lecture, we have heard it all before.

I am surprise with some of

I am surprise with some of the non-chantlot comments; this was a life, somebody daughter...where have the emphaty for hum-kind gone. It does not matter whether you come from the projects or from a rich community crime is rampant everywhere; it is time people take responsibilities for their actions...and give a darn once again.

The communities must come together to take back the streets, the communities before we are not able to move around...enough is enough!

Pastors, prophetess have nothing to do with someone killing someone or someone committed a crime against
someone...there is only one room in the coffin for one.

It is time to take action, get involved and say NO TO CRIME!!!
This killing is SENSELESS!!
