DUNWOODY, Ga. — Police are investigating the death of a man who was grabbed and pinned to the ground by security officers who suspected him of shoplifting.

Dunwoody Police spokesman Sgt. Mike Carlson says 38-year-old Marty Bridges was trying to flee a Walmart when store security officers grabbed him, and an altercation ensued.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Carlson says police arrived and found bystanders trying to resuscitate Bridges, who was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Carlson says the value of the items Bridges was accused of stealing was less than $300, and would have amounted to a misdemeanor.

He says it doesn't appear as if undue force was used to subdue Bridges.

How much authority does store

How much authority does store security have, can they be charged? Need more info on the story, it seems to be cut short on information. I pray for this mans family, it is sad that people are so desperate but wrong what he was trying to do.

Crook put himself in that

Crook put himself in that position. If he had stopped when the security officer had stopped him, he may be alive and this be a non story. End of story. Businesses and tax payers should have rights not criminals.

To 5:00smwhr: How much

To 5:00smwhr: How much authority do you have if someone steals your front porch furniture or anything from your home and you see them? Get over it. Stealing is like DUI's, etc. Don't participate in these activities and you will not get cought.

Happy Today. The article

Happy Today. The article doesn't say anything about being unemployed. With your mindset no wonder America is sinking fast. Who says businesses and tax payers are crooks? You and Obama. And, no Happy Today, I can look around my house and my business and find nothing that does not belong to me and/of the bank. Just because a person is a business owner and a tax payer does not mean they are a thief. I do not call people crooks until they prove that they are. Running and fighting security proves that the poor person who died was one.

Another death under suspicious circumstances associated with some so-called policing operations. The article already states NO "undue force was used", however, someone is STILL dead. Can U gues what all this means?

Ya'll are some very

Ya'll are some very coldhearted people! If he stole something, value was less than $300 and he would have not served any jail time, therefore not cost you heartless folk a dime. Too bad the man didn't know this, (apparently) or he wouldn't have run.
God help you if one of your family members ever take's anything!! With your mindset, they will also deserve to die.
And how presumptious, to assume the guy was on drugs. Oh that's right, anyone that steal's, rob's, or murder's, clearly is on drugs..

I can't understand why the real Justus4 won't give these poor people his address and phone number so he can help them. I'm a white grandma raising a mixed child whose black father was murdered by thugs of the same color. Who can I ask for help? Guess what? I don't need any help; I work for a living! God is my helper.

Steeling is wrong, no doubt,

Steeling is wrong, no doubt, but that does not mean everyone who does it is a hoodlum. It could have been a laid off man who panicked and wanted gifts for his kids at Christmas or food for them for all we know. It is okay for the rich men to pay themselves large bonuses while they run companies into the ground and cause the actual workers to get laid off, but that is not considered steeling? That is the problem with today's society. The small thefts are considered criminal, but the large ones are not.

Yes, I am coldhearted. Coke

Yes, I am coldhearted. Coke and meth kills people. one way or the other. And who told that man to steal? He brought it on himself. I have no sympathy for these criminals.
And not cost us anything? Who do you think pays for shoplifting? Not the store, not the thief. We do. I guess by that reasoning, nobody should ever buy anything, we should all just go steal. What is wrong with people?

Montega, they pinned his

Montega, they pinned his shoulders down. It's on security tape. He wasn't choked. And Montega, I don't have to worry about being choked or having someone's knee in my back because I don't steal. But apparantly you do. Too bad your mother, and his mother, never taught you "don't do bad things, they have a way of blowing up and becoming worse than you thought they would be"

Sure it would be a shame

Sure it would be a shame alabama, but I wouldn't wish death on the person.. That's insane way of thinking..
Yes Montega, the country is a joke.. Courtesy of the president and all the vigilantes out there.
Next, will be the story of someone running a light and wraps his/her car around a pole and dies. Oh yea, that's right.. He deserved to die cause after all, he DID run a red light!! The people above just don't realize how ridiculous there reasoning is. But that's ok, they will reap what they sow.
