THOMSON, Ga. – Sherry Sallywhite says she is counting her blessings.

She and her 1-year-old son, Eric, had to flee from their home on the 400 block of Fourth Street in Thomson about 11 a.m. after fire broke out in the kitchen and spread quickly to the remainder of the rented dwelling.

“I’m just so thankful to God we were able to get out alive,” Ms. Sallywhite said.

Earlier, Ms. Sallywhite, a clerk at a local convenience store, said she had gone into the kitchen and placed a pan of grease on the stove to get hot.

“I then went into the living room to get my telephone and by the time I came back, the stove was ablaze,” Ms. Sallywhite said. “All I could think about then was getting my baby and getting out of that house as quickly as I could.”

Firefighters with the Thomson Fire Department battled intense flames and heavy smoke before extinguishing the fire.

The home sustained extensive damages.

Fire officials still are investigating the exact cause.

Ms. Sallywhite, her boyfriend and their son, currently have no place to call home.

Just Nuts says:"this is another attempt by the AWM to portray you know who in a bad light . The non minority media focuses on sensational journalism and waste their time on insignificant stories. When are they going to finish investigating President Andrew Jackson for supposedly sleeping with the help instead of focusing on wasting taxpayer's money? this kinda of article only benefits you know who and the Seattle Supersonics. Great Country eh?"

Get a life already! It's

Get a life already! It's really getting old with your constant banter. Obviously you are him.
Christmas time or not, really have no sympathy for this woman. How old are you?? Were you never taught basic education to know that you NEVER leave a pot of grease unattended??
I feel for the kid, he didn't ask to be HOMELESS due to the neglect of his parent.

The woman made a mistake, we all make them, some are worse than others but we all make them, we are all human and not above it. Apparentley some of your parents made big mistakes when they were raising you heartless freaks.

What a terrible accident, the

What a terrible accident, the only good thing is that the family was able to escape without harm. Hopefully, the Salvation Army or another such group will be able to assist this family. My prayers are with them.

This is me now and not Just

This is me now and not Just Nuts; I love it when people say things like, I hope *somebody* helps, I hope *anybody* does something.....What a load of crock. If you are that concern about an issue, get off your duff and actually DO SOMETHING and not just "hope" for something to happen. And the best thing you can offer "your thoughts"????? I guess "thoughts" feed the family nad houses them.......

and remarks like "this needs

and remarks like "this needs to be investigated" "something needs to be done about this" "someone should look into this" . who are you do decide what should be done? Fine, if you think that SOMETHING must be done, put down the remote and inquire about the proper steps, or make the phone call yourself or fill out the paperwork or get the neighboorhood together. Do something and not just sit back and "HOPE". you think FDR sat back and hope? you think Geroge Washington sat back and hope? dont hope, participate!!!!!!
