ATLANTA — Holiday travel is rebounding this season across the country but remains depressed in Georgia.

AAA Auto Club South estimates that 87.7 million Americans will travel during the Christmas/New Year's Holiday, from Wednesday through Jan. 3.

That's up over last year, and regional vice president Kevin Bakewell says it's evidence the economy is rebounding.

But Florida and Georgia are projected to show a 4.7 percent decrease in overall travel from 2008. In Tennessee a 3 percent increase is projected.

Officials say many families chose to travel for Thanksgiving instead of Christmas.
