CarMax to open store between March and August

A chain used car dealership that has sat idle since its construction in May will finally open in the spring of 2010.

CarMax decided a year ago to finish the construction of its new 13,500-square foot showroom and lot in west Augusta along Interstate 20 despite knowing that it would not immediately open the store.

The Virginia-based used car chain said it would open the Augusta store when the economy got better.

The store 130 Mason McKnight Jr. Parkway will open between March and August.

CarMax will employ between 50 and 80 people. A company spokesperson said a timetable of hiring has not been set since an exact opening date hasn’t been picked.

The company has 100 superstores in 46 cities. Five of those stores are in Atlanta.

The company sells only used cars younger than 6 years old with fewer than 60,000 miles.
