A young woman who robbed a pizza restaurant while she was seven months pregnant has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Assistant District Attorney Anthony Nicastro said Rochelle M. Hailey, 22, pleaded guilty Thursday in Richmond County Superior Court to armed robbery.

Ms. Hailey had no prior criminal history before June 27 when she walked into a Domino’s Pizza with a gun and demanded money. She was arrested immediately after the holdup, Mr. Nicastro said.

Ms. Hailey, who delivered her baby while in jail, was sentenced to the minimum prison term for armed robbery. Parole is not an option for this crime in Georgia.

Just Nuts says="This is another attempt by the AWM to put young and upcoming females behind the "8 ball". this article only benefits the non minority media and the Indianapolis Colts.
this young woman walked into a pizzeria to buy a pepperoni slice to feed her raging pregnant hormones and also walked in with her God given right to carry a gun and they railroaded her into prison. this will onlt benefit you know who. Great country eh? I will chain myself to the first pregnant person I see (male or female) and will go on a hunger strike to show my disdain for the system and this article."

And they made her have her baby in jail! How much more cruel and unusual can you get? Vote out the Sheriff and replace him with JustUsNuts and we will right all the wrongs in the world. BTW, what the hell does AWM and LTE mean anyway?

A fisrt time offender clause
Unpublished

A fisrt time offender clause didn't seem to help this young lady, neither did the fact that there is a child that need caring for. So why the extremely harsh treatment from the judge, well, it's because of U know what. Again, this validates my constant belief that racial perjudice is operating within the courts without limits. Had this been U know who, the judge would have considered the child (there are several cases which demonstrate it) and the first offense statute, but witness the difference. In this case no consideration was gieven to anything except punishment. The evidence is clear and hopefully someone else is watching.

Wether she was given 10 years

Wether she was given 10 years or first offender treatment, Just Nuts, the punishments is within the legal range and therefore CONSTITUTIONAL.......0 to 10. She got 10. Stop crying about it Just Nuts because of you know what. TO Scott Hudson: AWM =all white media

You miss the part that says

You miss the part that says they gave her the MINIMUM for ARMED Robbery Justus4. Why should they consider the child...Ms. Hailey sure didn't when she set out to rob the place with a gun. This child will be taken care of while his or her mother serves her time. What if she had shot and killed a worker would you still think she shouldn't be held accountable. It's a sad situation but the law is the law. Please state instances where a pregnant female who robbed a place with a gun was given different prison time....or is this just your OPINION and not fact.

justice-let me get this

justice-let me get this straight....a pregnant female walks into a business w/a gun and robbed the place and you are complaining about the sentence??? why don't you wake up!!! SHE HAD A GUN, WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE SAID TO THE VICTIM'S FAMILY IF SHE SHOT AND KILLED SOMEONE!!!!! in my opinion baby or not she should have gotten 50 years!!! if she did not care/respect herself enuff to not get pregnant, get a JOB to take care of herself and her child, find the "baby's daddie" to help her then why should i care that she get 10 years...at least ther is one less trifling waste of a human being off the streets. you should like i do feel for the employees and the trauma and fear (for thier lives) that they felt for just doing their jobs. of which i am glad they were not hurt

Just Another Day: Do you feel

Just Another Day: Do you feel like you prove something by calling justus4 "just nuts?" You really don't. You look like a fool who feels victorious in discussion by insulting others for their views which you do not agree with. While I have no sympathy for this woman, Justus4 consistently raises interesting and thought provoking arguments. If you think race does not still pervade the justice system (or, in looser terms, the city of Augusta and its various systems), you are mistaken.

Hey! What about the danger

Hey! What about the danger she put that baby in? Some shop keepers shot back. What if a clerk shot her in the belly to stop her from robbing them. The baby dies and then she gets life for murder. Ten years is a sweet deal.

"Justus4 consistently raises

"Justus4 consistently raises interesting and thought provoking arguments." Sure, like the fact that there IS no first offender's consideration for armed robbery. And, of course, Justnuts, with his vast knowledge of criminal behavior, didn't take into account that she plea-bargained. Laughing, laughing, laughing...

Really a sad case when

Really a sad case when children are involved. If her judgement was this poor, the child is likely to get better care from someone else.

Is it any wonder the US has

Is it any wonder the US has the highest per capita incarceration in the world? Unless she had a violent or a repeat offender background - the lady should have only received a few months jail time and a number of years on probation and sentenced to some community service. Locking people up for years is often self defeating because we're just turning them into worse criminals. We're making our society more violent instead of less. We must lessen sentences for crimes that don’t cause bodily injury. I know that’s hard for the crowd that wants a pound of flesh from offenders.

corgimom - Please get a grip

corgimom - Please get a grip and yes I know a little about the criminal system. The lady DIDN'T hurt anybody and she was apprehended shortly after the offense. Our society has to focus on turning people around instead just punishing them. Punishing them is getting too costly and neither forgiving them or punishing them seems to work. But trying to turn them around is the cheaper and the better approach if it can be made to work. You can always lock them up later if they don’t stay legal. It’s like kids, try, try, and try some more.

GASPRINGWATER, by gar, I find

GASPRINGWATER, by gar, I find that I must agree with you on this matter. There seems to be dome folks out there that constantly call for life imprisonment (or nearly so) for any crime, no matter the nature of the crime (see lifelongresident, 5:04PM). I believe that the only reason they advocate life sentencing for any crime is because firing squads are not in vogue presently; no compassion, no common sense. And CORGIMOM, if this girl really wanted TO KILL simply because she had a gun then perhaps, with her victims held at the point of a gun, and since they were unable to defend themselves, she surely would have killed them if she had WANTED TO KILL. Actually, by the newspaper article, it appears that her motive was to obtain cash; nothing more, nothing less. And finally, to all others, her reason for going after cash (obviously not a pizza) is actually unknown, here ability to find work (or to even want to work) is unknown, her condition (7 months pregnant) may have finally convinced her that "papa" wasn't comin' home with the bacon. I don't know the answers here, and uninformed speculation as to the "whys" is juvenile to say the least. GGpap

Seems to me gaspringwater is

Seems to me gaspringwater is looking over the possible scenerio of that woman shooting someone had the robbery not gone smoothly. She took a gun to a robbery, which most all robbers do. That represented the same threat as any other robbery. You recommend only a few months for that? How you gonna apply that logic to any other robber? She got what shed deserved. She could easily have killed or hurt someone. I recognize that we lock up too many people but violent crimes need serious time. Robbery with a weapon is a violent crime. Lets get the drug crimes out of prison, and petty theft etc. Save room for the violent ones

Yosemitesam - Males with guns

Yosemitesam - Males with guns are a big problem but females with guns are not much of problem. How often do you hear of a female taking a gun and going into public and shooting people? The lady didn't have a violent history and she committed a crime while holding a gun. But nobody got hurt and giving her 10 years is simply absurd.

Yes, nobody got hurt which

Yes, nobody got hurt which I'm sure was taken into consideration when sentencing her to only ten years. It could easily have gone the other way though. She might have been shot for her foolish actions and both she and the baby could be dead today instead of her beginning her prison term.
