Gov. Sonny Perdue said there would be no tax increases in his 2010 budget.

Georgia's governor, visiting Augusta today to speak to a leadership group, also would not elaborate on potential cuts aimed to balance the state budget.

"I never give any heads up about those,” the governor said in a press conference following his remarks to Leadership Augusta. “I want to present a budget to the General Assembly that I can defend.”

Gov. Perdue said he could see some "revenue enhancements" regionally to benefit transportation, however, coming from the legislature.

"The Legislative may look to some ideas to allow local communities to enhance their ability to find projects on a regional basis," he explained.

In terms of a new baseball stadium in downtown Augusta on state-owned property, the governor said he would not stand in the way of the project if the mayor was able to gather local support for it.

Have you checked your

Have you checked your property taxes lately? I think a 20% increase due to the state disallowing previous exemptions is definitely a tax increase.

I agree why make a tax hike

I agree why make a tax hike when just keep raising our property taxes every year. fair tax is the only way to go man the income they would have then, i believe all the forclosure on homes just makes the lucky ones who can keep there homes pay their taxes that thay use to get..

chaz in ga it's county also.

chaz in ga it's county also. But we get an homestead exemption where we pay less in property taxes because the state sends money to the county. Well this year the state didn't send it so the counties had no choice but to raise property taxes to make up for it or cut services to residents.
