The National Weather Service says a low pressure system picking up moisture from the Gulf of Mexico is expected to bring rainfall of 2 to 3 inches to north and east Georgia, raising the possibility of flooding.

The Federal Aviation Administration also says the weather is causing delays of up to 30 minutes for planes arriving at Atlanta's Hartsfield Jackson International Airport.

Forecaster Laura Griffith says the rain today will be accompanied by 20-mph winds and gusts of 30 mph or more.

Griffith says the soil in Georgia is saturated from earlier rains, so rainfall of an inch or two can cause minor to moderate flooding.

She says there's a chance of some snowfall overnight, but accumulations are not expected.

Highs across the state were forecast to be in the 40s on today.

The chance of rain diminishes on Saturday, with clearing skies forecast for Sunday and slightly warmer temperatures.

Ongoing and forecasted flooding for Georgia follows:

As of 10 a.m. today, 10 locations around the state are observing rising rivers with minor flooding expected.

Six locations are observing minor flooding and will continue to have minor flooding.

Two location is experiencing minor flooding and expect to have moderate flooding.

Five locations are experiencing moderate flooding and will continue to have moderate flooding.
