Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, a native of Augusta, has been named Time magazine's "Person of the Year" for 2009.
The announcement was made this morning.
Mr. Bernanke was born Dec. 13, 1953, in Augusta while his family lived briefly in North Augusta.
Last year's winner was President-elect Obama. The 2007 winner was Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.
Other previous winners have included Bono, President George W. Bush, and Amazon.com CEO and founder Jeff Bezos.
Mr. Bernanke has been chairman of the Fed since Feb. 1, 2006.
