School board curbs appliance use

The Richmond County school board has approved tonight a policy that bans personal appliances, including mini-fridges, in most classrooms.

The board voted 6-1, with member Barbara Pulliam dissenting.

The purpose of the policy is to help the school system save on energy costs amid tough budgetary times.

The policy would allow teachers to pay a yet-to-be-set fee to have personal appliances in their offices, but the fee wouldn't allow them to use them in the class.

The policy does allow refrigerators in teachers' lounges.

What a bunch of idiots on the school board! They have bigger problems than electricity usage. They should worry less about trivial things and worry more about improving the Richmond County school system.

It was a teeny benefit that made life easier for teachers, coaches and administrators. The teacher who can't get away for lunch and brings a sandwich from home is now going to be put at risk for the mayo spoiling or something. We talk all the time about teachers being overworked and underpaid, then we do something petty like this.

The Richmond Cty School Board

The Richmond Cty School Board is so out to lunch they actually believe that can go out on their own and find a BMW factory to come here to solve the budget woes. They better be careful while at that lunch. The food may be spoiled from the lack of refrigeration.

I have a family member that teaches Special Ed. and she ends up talking to parents during her lunch break in her classroom and rarely gets a lunch break .But if she did get a lunch break, it would have to be in her portable and it sure would be nice to have a cold drink with that dry sandwich.

nelson, I'm sure you can't

nelson, I'm sure you can't get the ice from the school and parents that are teachers don't have the time to haul ice to work to keep their lunches cool because they are busy trying to get their kids to daycare, school, grandma's house etc. I think there are bigger fish to fry than taking away the only practical method for teachers to keep their food and drinks cool.

I wonder if the electricity

I wonder if the electricity usage costs more than the salaries for the energy manager and energy employees ? Don't forget the gas they are using to ride around and look for wasted energy ..Priceless...

Ridiculous, bordering on

Ridiculous, bordering on outrageous. To deny and/or charge the teachers a $ amount to have a mini-refrigerator in their room is insane!--------------------the teachers should have the right to charge the single parent (whose career path is to download as many illegetimate offspring {government checks, i.e. Post Office money} as possible) an extra fee to baby-sit the cretins whose life the "unwed" mom has no idea of what an involved parent should be doing. And I do not mean that the fee should be paid by the government-----------the fee should be subtracted from the Post Office $ that is being paid to the welfare broodmares. Charge the teachers for energy $ for the mini-fridges?-------------NO--------------charge the welfare broodmares for the school bus fuel that is used to transport the illegetimate downloads to school when the downloads have no inclination to seek an education the broodmares enjoy the "quiet time" opportunity to upload one more addition to their welfare $ with the next sperm donor who is available at that particular time.
