A police chase ended this afternoon with a crash at the corner of Wrightsboro and Hickman Roads that knocked out power and caused traffic jams along the busy roadway.

Hundreds of plastic bottles were scattered about the road after the driver of a green Honda Accord smashed the into a flat-bed truck carrying soda, water and juice, according to Richmond County Sheriff’s Lt. Scott Gay.

No names have been released but authorities said the driver of the Honda Accord and the driver of the truck were both taken to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital for minor injuries.

A passenger in the Honda Accord was also transported to the hospital.

A deputy began to pursue the car because it matched the description of a vehicle believed to have been used by a man in a theft from the Family Dollar on Broad Street earlier today, Lt. Steven Strickland said.

The driver ran through the intersection of Hickman Road and Wrightsboro Road and collided with the front of the truck, he said. The truck caught fire and traveled down the hill, finally stopping in the yard of a home at 2063 Wrightsboro Road.

The accident also caused a power pole to break, which prompted about 900 homes and businesses in the area to lose power, according to a Georgia Power spokeswoman.

So far, power has been restored to about half of the homes.

Lt. Strickland said the driver of the suspect’s vehicle ran from deputies after the accident but was caught a short distance away. A passenger in the car had to be cut from the vehicle.

Charges are pending against the driver of the Honda Accord, Lt. Strickland said.

Well it's really a bit worse

Well it's really a bit worse than this. A police chase ended with the suspects crashing into the back of a truck which then sheared off a power pole. The occupants of the suspect vehicle have been transported to the hospital and Wrightsboro in front of the VA is closed. The injuries to the susepcts are not life threatening. Officers have found drugs (crack) in their vehicle.

wbrown, thanks, they will

wbrown, thanks, they will eventually catch up with the details. The suspects had just robbed a dollar store, that is why they were being pursued.

It's too bad that there

It's too bad that there weren't two fatalities in this wreck...the CRIMINALS.. I'm sick and tired of seeing how much it costs to put thugs in jail over and over again, while meanwhile WE the taxpayers who obey the laws are getting screwed every day. Two less losers on the street wouldn't bother me one bit. After all, it could have been an innocent person crossing the street who was killed.

Moose, that could very well

Moose, that could very well be. The VA reference might have been to how far it was backed up and where they were diverting folks.

Can someone please tell me what a power pole is? I see that AC use this word all the time. Could it be a UTILITY POLE?

Thanks Strom, better reporting than AC does most days.

Yes humble, THAT'S the answer!! To death with everyone who partake's in a crime. Oh, they stole a candy bar and ran, let's send em to the dirt.. That makes not a lick of sense.

onecat..better than a

onecat..better than a "telephone" pole that it's usually called. The power was out in the area, traffic lights, etc so power was involved.

Yeah pommom38, around here

Yeah pommom38, around here y'all call it a "red light", but in other places it's called a "traffic light". Some folks might not see a "red light" until they reach Atlanta. lol

More lazy crooks for us to

More lazy crooks for us to pay medical costs for. I feel bad for the innocent truck driver and those who lost power because of these sorry thugs.

I guess we are supposed to

I guess we are supposed to have compassion for that criminal, too, because he must have needed whatever it was that he stole. If you need it, then you should be able to steal it, right?

pommom38.....I have to say I

pommom38.....I have to say I agree with Humble about it being too bad they were only injured. I think you are minimizing their crime. Robbing a store, running from police and crack possession is a little more serious than stealing a candy bar.

no, I am most certainly not

no, I am most certainly not minimizing everything they did! But I don't agree with someone saying because you do a crime, you should be dead so the tax payers don't have to pay for your behind.
I am sick and tired of all these murdurers and theives as the next person, but would not say they should all die.
No one will ever agree with everyone, and that's what makes america, america.

corgimom, Stealing is wrong

corgimom, Stealing is wrong any way you look at it but I think there is a big difference in a man trying to restore electricity to his house so he can keep his family warm and an individual who robs a store, then runs from the police, has drugs in the car, and damages property in the process.

according to this article, it

according to this article, it was a theft that occurred -- which can include shoplifting not just robbery. then again, i dont sit around listening to a police scanner all day so how would i know. i would hate to think this much damage went into catching a shoplifter but i dont see any reports about a robbery @ DG. secondly, InChristLove -- like u said, there's no difference therefore no excuse. stealing is stealing. who's to say this individual didn't have some moral inclination as well? The article about the guy stealing electricity didn't even include anything about him trying to warm his family (unless it's been edited to include this since i last saw it) so wth are u talking about - making up stories in ur own head? hell, some criminals dont even need to think of excuses for their crimes 'cus you got some bleeding heart already coming up with some sob story to justify it. LilDevil - clearly u havent been here long enough to watch an article spinoff into the kkksupport messageboard where all the HBs get to hide behind screen names and air all their dirty racist thoughts. this is nothing yet hahaha
