Gary refuses special last meal

  • Follow Latest News

ATLANTA — Carlton Gary, known as the "Columbus Stocking Strangler," has declined a special last meal before his execution.

The Georgia Department Corrections says in a statement that Gary will be served the same meal as other inmates before his execution: a grilled cheeseburger, oven-browned potatoes, baked beans, coleslaw, cookies and a grape drink.

Gary has a hearing set for Monday before the state Board of Pardons and Paroles. Unless the board changes his sentence to life without parole, life with the possibility of parole or grants a stay of execution, Gary is set to be executed at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the state prison at Jackson.

Gary was convicted in three of seven "stocking strangler" slayings in Columbus in 1986. The victims were strangled with their own stockings.

Grilled cheeseburger,

Grilled cheeseburger, oven-browned potato... that menu is better than some restaurants I've seen. Feed them peanut butter and jelly, three times a day. Every day. Forever. Your ACLU at work.

People commit crimes. They go

People commit crimes. They go to prison for a certain length of time. That does not mean that they can be starved or malnourished. It has nothing to do with the ACLU, it has to do with the Constitution- "cruel and unusual punishment". That was specifically written so that the US wouldn't do what Great Britain had done with its prisoners- which was, lock them up and starve them.

Yes I guess it's wrong to starve anyone, but they sure need to do something to make prison a place those thugs don't want to return to.

These torturer-murderers

These torturer-murderers should face a similar fate as their victims. They, too, should be tortured before execution. This would make other scumbags think twice before committing such heinous crimes.

I say again, bring back the

I say again, bring back the guillotine! Display the heads in a gallery that is required viewing by all criminals before their stay at prison. Or better yet, make the prisoners watch the beheading!

If people knew by being

If people knew by being convicted and sentenced to prison they'd get a steady, unvarying diet of pb&j it'd be more of a deterrent than the death penalty which allows a convict on the avg of 12 yrs IF it's ever carried out. I like the starvation idea but, unlike my suggestion, that'd be cruel and unusual punishment. Keep a convict behind bars, bury an ACLU lawyer.

RIPAmerica probably sittin on

RIPAmerica probably sittin on that front pew down at the baptist church
Fishman wanting good old fashion public beheading.(Hint-Hint- Move to Saudi Arabia-no cumbersome Constitution and plenty of good old government enforced religion.)....Thank Almighty God for the wisdom of Samuel Adams, John Adams,Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin and associates. Government should serve the people, not vice-versa!!!
No one condones these crimes, but what sets us apart from totaltarian regimes is controls on government...Have no personal experience with prison but can not imagine the loss of liberty...

Feed them peanut butter sandwiches 2 times daliy and three cups of water a day. They will get the nutrition they need and the hydration. They may feel a little thirsty now and then, but oh well nothing in this life is perfect.

Thats apretty good average

Thats apretty good average meal . Lots of law abiding folks wont eat that well this evening they cant afford it! We need the system that was in place 40 years ago. Clean ditches all day and get a supper of blackeyed peas, cornbread and fried bologna. That will get you thinking straight next time you want to act stupid on the street. Georgia had a great rehab program in those days. Take my word for it.

Well. EXAUG. since you've chosen to attempt to attack me via religion (way off by the way and none of your business) , I say this unto you: I can see by your post that your wisdom indeed comes from Sam Adams... the beer, not the patriot. Have a Merry Christmas.

corgimom-- I don't think anyone would starve on peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Actually that would be too good for them. Maybe a fatback sandwich on two day old bread.

I believe in the death

I believe in the death penalty. My only objection is, if there is not doubt in guilt, the execution should be carried out within 30 days of being found guilty-not 20 years later. Justice delayed in such a manner is not justice. Let them feel the sting of the death needle.

We can feed them like may

We can feed them like may people in the world. Rice and dried fish and the occasional piece of chicken. They will be fit as a SE Asian. While I'm on it. Instead of EBT we need to issue vouchers for families to come pick up a 50lb bag of rice and a 50lb bag of beans. Wait and see how people will miraculously be able to feed themselves other food.

Starve him and all death row

Starve him and all death row criminials. What does it matter, call it torture or inhumane. What they do to their victims is inhumane. America has to get a backbone and take on criminals. Torture, starvation, severe death all can be deterents to crime. And don't give me that innocent people die on death row, cause I tell you innocent people die every day on the streets of America at the hand of criminals.

Concerning EBT cards. While

Concerning EBT cards. While at the local Crab King at Olive and Milledgeville Rds last week I was paying for my crab legs and shrimp with cash while all the locals around the store were paying with EBT cards. What am I doing wrong here****working? In my opinion that type of purchase should be off limits because of the price. EBT cards should be used for mor staple purchases for the family and kids.

A credible source? Didn't any

A credible source? Didn't any of you take American History classes in high school? Didn't any of you take civics in high school? Didn't any of you learn about what England was like and why the Constitution was specifically written the way it was? Where do you think that amendment came from? How do you think it was done in England back in those days? Do you pay any attention to what the Supreme Court does, the cases that they rule on, and how they rule? And, go back and read my post. Did I offer my personal opinion? No, I did not. My God, there are some truly ridiculous people on here.
