SPRINGFIELD, Ga. – Effingham County sheriff’s deputies have filed additional charges against an Effingham County teacher and former youth director for the Catholic Diocese of Savannah.

Julian Sheppard Heyman III, 52, of Springfield, was arrested Nov. 30 by Effingham County sheriff’s deputies at his residence and charged with numerous counts related to molesting an underage girl.

Wednesday’s charges include four more counts associated with a second underage female, said sheriff’s spokesman David Ehsanipoor.

Heyman is currently employed as a sixth-grade science teacher at Ebenezer Middle School in Rincon. At the time of the alleged incidents, he was employed with the Savannah Diocese.

"At this point in the investigation, there is no indication these incidents took place at the school or against any of his students," Ehsanipoor said.

Heyman remains in the Effingham County jail without bond.

I question a man that goes

I question a man that goes into early childhood and middle school age education. I am not saying they all have bad motives but you have to wonder about some of them with all that is going on with the molestations of young children. The same goes for youth directors at churches because a church that my family went to this was the case and you are seeing this more and more. It is sad you have to worry about this kind of thing and the safety of your children.

mercyme, foolish "one size

mercyme, foolish "one size fits all" reasoning. All dogs aren't vicious killers and all male teachers aren't child molesters. It's the p.c. attitude that an occasional molestation is a "temporary indiscretion". If the guilty party is removed upon first indication, the continued acts would never take place.

mercyme, you see I am a very cautious person but male teachers are a good thing. My child always did very well with male teachers. Unfortunately, the scum of the earth always go where they can find their victims. They look for kids who do not have people in their lives supporting them so the kid is already at a detriment and then the scum compound the problem. These scum hurt the rest of society. Go wherever kids are and you will see these scum lerking in the background it is up to the rest of us to pay attention to our kids as well as to those kids who seem to have no one looking out for them.

mercyme, if all male teahers

mercyme, if all male teahers are suspect because of this and a few other cases, I guess the same appies to the female teachers who have made the news having sex with their male students-usually in middle or high school. My brother was an outstanding high school teacher.

Mercyme, you are disgusting.

Mercyme, you are disgusting. My 5th grade teacher- a man- was one of the best human beings I have ever known, and was the best teacher I ever had. When he died, they held a memorial service at the school, the funeral home was too small. People came in from across the US to attend. He's one of the reasons I volunteer.

Mercyme, you have lost your mind. Scripture indicates Jesus Christ taught children. Are you suggesting Jesus must have had a problem because he cared for children? What a warped sense of reasoning!

Why attack each other for a difference of opinion in an opinion forum? Makes no sense. Unfortunately child rapists are everywhere. Pedophiles are incurable. After first conviction, they should be barred from access to kids as much as possible. Parents should get involved. Know your kids teachers. Know your youth minister. Protect your kids.

Just because someone is in

Just because someone is in church doesn't make them a good person. That's a misconception a lot of people have.......oh, he's a youth minister, such a good Christian.......NOT in this case. There are sick people everywhere and it's a shame that you can't trust anyone with your child, but it's a fact and people should be aware. Get him and keep him away from children. Jeez, these guys need to be tatooed once they are convicted!
