Bel Air Elementary School students on Columbia County school bus No. 2216 were delayed arriving to school this morning when the engine of their bus died.

The bus was traveling on Owens Road near Ashton Woods Drive in Evans shortly after 8 a.m. when the engine began smoking and died. A passing motorist saw the smoke and called in a report of a fire on the bus.

Martinez-Columbia Fire Rescue firefighters responded to the scene, where it was determined that there was no fire, just the damage to the engine.

No students were injured in the incident, and all were transferred to another bus to complete the trip to school.
