A powerful Pacific storm crossing the central and southern Rockies this morning, along with a warm front from Texas to Florida, will lead to severe thunderstorms in western Georgia.

Pam Tucker, the director of Columbia County Emergency Management, said the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center has issued a slight risk of severe thunderstorms across vast areas including western Georgia. The Augusta area can expect rain from the storm, however.

The severe thunderstorms are expected to move into Georgia tonight and early Wednesday morning.

Tonight's forecast calls for cloudy skies with widespread showers and thunderstorms and overnight lows dropping into the 40s in the northern part of Georgia.

The northeast section of Georgia can expect snow Saturday, according to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, Ga.

Saturday’s forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies with rain likely statewide. Rain will be

mixed with snow in the morning in the upper corner of the state.

The lows will be in the 30s in north Georgia and in the 40s in the south.
