Fetal remains lead to teen's arrest

  • Follow Latest News

CONWAY, S.C. — A 16-year-old girl has been arrested after authorities found the skeletal remains of a fetus.

Horry County Police Sgt. Robert Kegler said the teen's mother called police Sunday night after she saw pictures of what looked like a dead fetus on her daughter's cell phone.

Kegler says the woman recognized the area as a place in Conway where she and her daughter used to live. She went there, found the remains and took them back to her Surfside Beach home before calling police.

Kegler says the fetus was buried in May. The teen was charged with desecration of human remains. She is being held at the Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia and is expected to have a hearing Tuesday.

Her name has not been released.

If they are going to arrest

If they are going to arrest her, arrest every woman who requested an abortion. Same result.

What? This isn't ok? Really?

What? This isn't ok? Really? Well why is it not a crime to throw fesh fetal remains into an incinerator down on Broad and 13th Street right here in Augusta? Oh, wait. They aren't "human remains" if it's a "doctor" who intentionally sucks or hacks them out of their mothers.

If the Democrats have their

If the Democrats have their way with the proposed Health Care Bill, the government will pay for abortion killings. This all is really sick. Abortions should not be legal except for extreme cases. In this case maybe the baby was born dead and the teenager made a judgement error.

Why are ya'll getting all

Why are ya'll getting all bent out of shape? There is more to this story than what's reported. Maybe she *miscarried* and wanted the baby, maybe she didn't want anyone to know she was pregnant, maybe she did something to make her lose the baby. We don't know.. Ya'll are being very preumptious w/o knowing any facts. 16?? There is no telling what ran through that girl's head.

Whose baby is it? (male AND

Whose baby is it? (male AND female) Why did the baby die? Why was the picture taken and by whom? Did the 16 year old actually take the picture or someone else using her phone? Why are the remains considered desecrated and why is she being charged with it? If someone is charged with anything, shouldn't it normally be "mishandling of remains"? These are just some questions that come to mind. There is not much information here, just fodder for questions.

Who says she had an abortion?

Who says she had an abortion? Do you think that when someone has an abortion, that they say "oh by the way, go bury the fetus any place you choose"? And Fiat Lux, ever heard of D&C's? Ever heard of spontaneous abortion- the PC term is miscarriage- where the fetus doesn't get expelled? There is absolutely nothing in this story about abortion, and all of you who say there is, should be ashamed of yourself.

Let me be blunt here. That

Let me be blunt here. That was over 6 months ago. Nothing remained but a skeleton. All they can charge her with is this: DESTRUCTION OR DESECRATION OF HUMAN REMAINS

Misdemeanor, Class E or F Felony
Code §16-17-600
CDR Codes 471-473, 429

Elements Of The Offense:

A. 1. That the accused willfully and knowingly,
a. Destroyed or damaged the remains of a deceased human being;
b. Removed a portion of the remains of a deceased human being from a burial ground where human skeletal remains are buried;
c. Desecrated human remains.

This falls under SC law, not GA law, that's why it's desecration. There's no evidence of anything else by this time. This is just sad.

How do they know SHE did the

How do they know SHE did the alleged desecration? Did she tell them she did? Did someone else tell them she did? The article doesn't say, it doesn't even say who buried the remains, just that they were buried in May. Whatever is alleged to have happened, it still needs to be proven in a court of law unless she has already said she did it. Even so, they might want to go ahead and establish proof that she did it, she could always recant a confession. In other words, we know NOTHING for certain at this point. I'm not complaining, just saying. And BTW, I haven't made any accusations or formed any theories about anything, I'm just asking questions to illustrate that we don't know what happened and we shouldn't be jumping to conclusions.

Corgi, you don't usually "not get it", even when you don't agree. Please, go back and re-read my 8:57 am comment. You'll see that I wasn't really talking about this teenager at all.

It isn't a crime to

It isn't a crime to incinerate human tissue that is removed surgically and I think it's great that we don't agree, because some of things you say on here are nonsensical. I am aware that you weren't talking about her. But there are some people that is fixated upon abortion. If that's what makes you happy, fine- but there are a whole lot of people, including myself, that are offended by people trying to drag abortion into everything. This had nothing to do with abortion. Why don't you discuss all the tissue that is dipsosed of at hospitals? Why do you single out Planned Parenthood? It's defacto racism, and it's wrong. Let me tell you, the rich white women- including the "religious" ones- get their abortions too, they just call them D&C's- at University and MCG and DDEAMC, but you never post a word about that. Why is that?

Corgi, you are one hateful

Corgi, you are one hateful lib, and I couldn't care less if you are offended by my moral objection to the murder of unborn children, whether it happens at Planned Parenthood or is done by a private physician in a hospital under the guise of terminating the gestation of a "non-viable" fetus. And if you really want to discuss racism, you would do well to explore the eugenicist origins of Planned Parenthood, the intention of which was that the poor and "unfit", especially blacks, would not be given the opportunity to reproduce. I believe you are truly morally stunted and I find it both sad and disgusting that someone who obviously has some education could be so unenlightened for the sake of being allowed to dispose of the life of another person out of "personal choice". If human life is not sacred and worth protecting, how can anyone expect any other rights of individuals to merit protection? How about some rational thought for a change.
