Georgia to play Texas A&M in Independence Bowl

  • Follow Latest News

ATHENS, Ga. – After a disappointing season, Georgia is going to the Independence Bowl to face Texas A&M.

The Bulldogs (7-5) head into the Dec. 28 game in Shreveport, La., with their most losses in Mark Richt's nine seasons as coach and having fired three defensive assistants. But they are coming off an upset of Atlantic Coast Conference champion Georgia Tech.

The game will be televised by ESPN. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m.

Georgia will be making its second trip to the Independence Bowl, the last coming in 1991. The Bulldogs haven't faced Texas A&M since a 42-0 victory in 1980 on the way to the national championship.

The Aggies (6-6) received an invitation despite finishing fifth in the Big 12 South.

austinevans, are you serious?

austinevans, are you serious? Richt shouldn't go anywhere. Did you forget they were preason #1 last year, and have a top 5 recruiting class every year. Richt can't go around following his players 24/7 either.

I think Richt is a good coach

I think Richt is a good coach but not a great one.He is not a motivator like he should be.He needs to take it to the next level.

Its so easy to judge a coach

Its so easy to judge a coach because you had a bad season. But good coaches that are competitive in the SEC and lead you to conference championships and winning seasons are hard to find. There are not that many out there. Do I wish Richt was a little more aggressive and inspiring to the guys? Yes! Do I wish he had got rid of those assistant coaches earlier? Yes, but am I am going to throw Richt away because he is too nice, definately NOT! He is a good man and a fantastic coach and the bulldog family will stick with him as long as continues to make the right decisions for our team! Go Dawgs!
