E.G. "Earnie" Smith was the lone qualifier this week to fill the vacant state House District 122 seat.

That seat was vacated by state Rep. Hardie Davis, a Democrat, who was one of four to qualify this week for the empty state Senate seat, which came open when Ed Tarver was appointed U.S. attorney.

The last candidate, Harold V. Jones II, also a Democrat, qualified today to run in the Jan. 5 special election for the Senate District 22 seat. He resigned his post as Augusta city solicitor to do so.

The other two Seante candidates are Sandra Suetta Cannon Scott, a Democrat, and Taylor Bryant, a Libertarian.
