The westbound lanes of Broad Street will be closed on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., according to a release from the Downtown Development Authority.

The closure is due to the Miss Augusta 2009 Christmas Fantasy Parade, which starts at 3 p.m.

One westbound lane will re-open immediately following the parade at 4:30 p.m. Residents and others doing business downtown are encouraged to avoid parking on the north side of Broad Street.

The parade will be followed by The Augusta Chronicle's Christmas Light-Up Spectacular, which concludes at 6:30 p.m. with a fireworks display and Mayor Deke Copenhaver lighting the downtown decorations.
