Richmond and Aiken county investigators captured a man earlier today who was wanted in a January shooting.

Special
Michael Johnson

Michael Allen Johnson, 19, of the 1300 block of Bettis Academy Road, Trenton, was arrested and charged with assault and battery with intent to kill and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, Aiken County sheriff's Sgt. Dave Myers said in a news release. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office assisted in locating Mr. Johnson today in Augusta after receiving a tip concerning his whereabouts.

On Jan. 8, investigators believe the suspect approached a North Augusta man, pointed a pistol at him and demanded money. When the victim ran from Mr. Johnson, the victim said he shot at him, striking him in the leg.

Mr. Johnson had been on the Aiken County Most wanted list since the incident almost a year ago.

Mr. Johnson is being held at the Richmond County jail pending extradition.
