Walton Way section to reopen Wednesday

  • Follow Latest News

Work crews will reopen Walton Way tomorrow after about four months of construction.

The roadway closed between 13th and New Bailie Streets in July as part of the St. Sebastian Way expansion project. Mike Keene, area engineer for the Georgia Department of Transportation, said barring any bad weather or equipment malfunctions, the roadway will be open at noon.

St. Sebastian Way Extension, planned as a fusion of existing downtown thoroughfares and new flyover ramps, will move traffic from River Watch Parkway to the city's medical centers -- while avoiding downtown railroad tracks and stop lights. As part of the $21 million project, work crews had to realign the intersection of Walton Way and St. Sebastian Way to meet with the new roadway and install utility lines.
