A Clearwater resident said he was bit by a roaming pit bull after trying to break up a dog fight this afternoon.

The victim was transported to Aiken Medical Regional Center for a bite on the left hand, said Aiken County Animal Control Chief Officer Bobby Arthurs. The pit bull was involved in a fight with a mixed breed dog after getting loose in the 100 block of Carn Park Drive around 2:30 p.m., Officer Arthurs said. The man said he tried to break up the fight, and was bitten by the pit bull, Officer Arthurs said.

The victim had a minor injury, he said. The other dog in the fight will be treated by a veterinarian for injuries to its neck.

Animal Control has detained the pit bull until an undetermined court date, he said.

The owner was not present at the time of the incident, and could be charged with animal creating a nuisance and other charges, Officer Authurs said.

Oh No a pitbull! You got to be kidding me to run a story like this just because it was called a pitbull. Wait till you see its a lab chow mix, Duh-Huh

Pit Bulldogs should be banned. They are a loaded gun running about unrestrained. One never knows when they will go off and on whom. They are dangerous dogs.

NewsNut

We should ban pit bulldogs and democrats from this Country. They are both a danger to the America.

I've been around American Pit Bull Terriers for years. It was once the most beloved breed in the US and would rightly still be if it wasn't for a handful of thugs and allot of public stupidity. If you people only knew how dumb you sound when talking about " pit bulls". Most of you ( including the media ) probably don't even know what one is. Here's a test if you think I'm wrong.
Although I doubt most of you are smart enough to copy and paste.

My pit wont bite you but my two little 8 pound mix breeds will. Give me a break! Pits are the sweetest most loyal dog you can own. Just ask my 5 year old grand daughter who loves this mean ole pitbull! Give me a break. Get the owner

TakeAstand

No matter what the dog is, irresponsible pet owners who do not keep their animals contained shouldn't have a dog. Pits can be household pets, just so happens most irresponsible idiots choose pits for pets. Waiting to hear how many times it's been loose before.

AMAZING...how does he know the pit bull bit him! You try to break up a dog fight and you know which one bit you! My AMSTAF was attacked at the dog park while she was leashed and as we were walking out, she was attacked by your "All American Family Dog" A black Labrador, I tried to break up the fight I got bit but which dog did it I don't know. I have had pit bulls all my life, and with
ALL BREEDS OF DOGS OWNERS HAVE TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR PETS!!!
Pit bulls shouldn't be banned!Why...I bet you are the same people crying about government being to big and now you are going to let the government tell you what kind of dog you should have!

Yeah, we've all heard that there are more dog bites by SMALL dogs. Just look at the statistics for serious or FATAL bites. Nobody ever gets mauled by a poodle. Nobody ever dies from being attacked by a Jack Russell terrior. But there are NUMEROUS serious and FATAL attacks by pitbulls, or Stafordshire Terriors, whatever you want to call them. The ONLY good pitbull is a DEAD pitbull.

Sorry humbleopinion, but you're wrong. You can make ANY dog a terror if you don't train and socialize them properly. BTW, I'd hate to see someone who was mauled by a standard poodle....they're big dogs. My daughter has a pit and she's nothing but a big baby. I have NO fear of my two year old granddaughter playing with that dog. NONE. These dogs are loyal, affectionate, obedient and gentle when raised properly. Anyone screeching otherwise is doing so from a position of ignorance.
