STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern University announced Saturday night that head football coach Chris Hatcher’s contract will not be renewed.

According to athletic director Sam Baker, a national search will begin immediately to find a replacement.

Hatcher finished 18-15 during his three-year tenure with the Eagles. Georgia Southern, who beat The Citadel 13-6 on Saturday, finished with just its third losing season in the 28 years (5-6 overall) since football was reinstated.

Contrarian Coach

That's what GASOU gets for being spoiled and delusional. They are now just like Nebraska; inferior after firing a coach for a 9-3 or 9-4 season. Their reasons: "we are not winning the National Title every year", and "We need to run a new offense that looks modern". Idiots (Athletic Directors are who I'm refering to) don't look at the offense ranking between 1st to 4th nationally in rushing for both teams and that their championships were won using these schemes. True coaches know schemes don't just stop working, they just become boring after seeing them a long time. It's more about if it looks exciting, even at the expense of losing. Tons of spread teams are running a good team into the ground with I formation or flexbone personnel. Both of those teams WERE my favorite teams until they got rid of Solich and Sewak. The reality is that Nebraska went though a spell of not having good tailbacks and GASOU had a horrendous defense. AD's need to stop letting other people run their program and let the coaches coach, even if it doesn't look pretty or trendy. If the coaches are winning more than they lose on a consistent basis, that should be enough.

BTW, Paul Johnson is running the flexbone at GT with Sewak as an offensive line coach. Guess outdated offenses can still work. Fire Sam Baker; he's as bad as Steve Pederson was at Nebraska. When Pederson brought in Brian Callahan, the nation got to see how big a fool he was. Same thing with Baker in bringing in VanGorder and Hatcher. I went to GASOU during the Sewak, VanGorder, and Hatcher era and can tell you before Baker brought in Van Gorder that a square peg can't fit into a round hole. The Southern Conference was RELIEVED when Sewak was fired and publicly made it known they were glad the flexbone was gone. Needless to say, App. State began its dominance. When your opponent who you routinely gave fits and beat down are glad you got rid of something, you made a mistake. Get a flexbone coach, a good D. Coordinatior whose scheme relies on speed, not size, and you'll be good to go.
