BUFORD, Ga. Gwinnett County police are investigating a reported rape in a storage room at the Mall of Georgia.
Police say the 21-year-old victim and 20-year-old Jarvis Wiley, who has been charged in the incident, are acquaintances and work in separate kiosks at the mall.
The victim told police that Mr. Wiley asked her to help him in a storage room and then sexually assaulted her in there.
The victim immediately reported the alleged assault to mall security and Gwinnett police.
Police arrested Mr. Wiley and charged him with one count of rape. He was being held without bond in the Gwinnett County jail.
It's interesting how they don't release the victim's name, but they will release the name of the accused. Why taint his image and reputation before he is even found guilty?
Because in America we don't have secret arrests. Would you prefer to have secret arrests, like they do in Communist countries?
I live near this area,,, & just like Regency in Augusta this mall is going down{sorry to say} When the Mall of Ga was built business dropped off at Gwinnett...but unlike Augusta the leaders here realize this & they are trying to improve the area around the mall,,improving streets,,cleaning all around & restricting certain buildings, a police station has been built in 1/2 mile of Gwinnett mall...hopefully they can stop the decline..
good point andywarhol, There should be some form of protection for the accused since more than half of the rapes reported are actual rapes. The accused is always named and the accuser is always protected. If the accused is found not guilty, the accuser is never prosecuted and the accused is never reimbursed for lost time and damage to life and reputation.
Rape occurs everywhere. You could build the police station 50 feet down the road and it would still happen. And johnston, less than one in four rapes are reported. There is a difference between acquittal and innocence.
Corgi if less than one in four are reported, how do you know four happened? After all they were unreported.
Rape does happen everywhere,,,sometimes in your home..& dissman sometimes with family,,ex mates,,people you know.. There are many reasons women don't always report this..& sometimes no one believes her..
The FBI compiled those statistics after years of study and numerous sources of data, including hospital reports, social workers, police reports, health care workers, convicted rapists, and interviewing women of all socioeconomic levels. It is way more common than you think it is.
