Suspicious death now being investigated as a homicide

An autopsy revealed that a Warrenville man found dead this morning was beaten to death.

John Barrs, 68, died from a severe head injury due to blunt force from an unknown weapon, Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said in a news release this afternoon.

Mr. Barrs' caretaker found him dead at his home on Spring Wood Loop around 8:30 this morning, Aiken County Sheriff's Sgt. Dave Myers said.

He had been dead since about 8 p.m. Thursday, Mr. Carlton said.

The Aiken County Sheriff’s is investigating the homicide, but there are no other details concerning the investigation, Sgt. Myers said.
