Winfrey to announce Friday show will end in 2011

CHICAGO -- Oprah Winfrey's production company says Winfrey will announce Friday that her talk show will end in 2011 after its 25th season on the air.

Chicago-based Harpo Productions Inc. said Thursday night that the talk show host will give more details live on the "The Oprah Winfrey Show" broadcast Friday.

Winfrey started her broadcasting career in Nashville, Tenn., and Baltimore, Md., before relocating to Chicago in 1984 to host WLS-TV's morning talk show "A.M. Chicago."

That show was renamed "The Oprah Winfrey Show" in 1985.

A year later, Winfrey established Harpo and her talk show went into syndication. In 1990, Winfrey opened Harpo Studios in Chicago's West Loop neighborhood.

Just in timr for her presidential campaign. Go figure.

My prayers have been answered. As to her Presidential bid, she could not stand the scrutiny. In addition, African American political power flows from husband to wife. Should President Obama allow elections at the end of his second term, it will be his wife who will rule us.

thought she was already dead

I guess when you have a billion dollars you can do as you please.

Oprah has moved from the lowest point on the economic scale to one of the highest points. She's experienced pinnacles in acting, writing, hosting her show, production and various charitable efforts. Even if you don't agree with her political position or her style, you've got to admire her effort and accomplishments. She'll do well in whatever she decides to try next.

Like her or not she is a very smart lady...She has more people reading books,,which is a very good thing..

I am proud to say that I have never watched the Oprah Winfrey show. Only in a culture as depleted as ours, with people as stupid as the American population is, would such an issue be considered news. Her show and reading lists are about as boring and vapid as soap operas. But catering to the lowest common denominator has made her billions. Only in America. Her talent ranks right up there with that twinkie, Vanna White, who became rich and famous for turning letters on Wheel of Fortune. Carrie Prejean and Sarah Palin carry on the tradidition of America's love of mediocrity and dumbness over substance and intellectualism.
