Ga. unemployment rate hits 10.2 percent

ATLANTA - Georgia officials say the state's unemployment rate has risen slightly and now stands at 10.2 percent.

The state Department of Labor says the rate rose by one-tenth of a point in October, and the seasonally adjusted rate now matches the national average.

Statistics indicate the Augusta area lost 5,600 jobs between October 2008 and October 2009. The area presently has more than 209,000 jobs, down from just over 215,300 last year, for a 2.3 percent decline.

Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond says the state's unemployment rate was 6.9 percent a year ago, and the state's labor force decreased by about 139,000 while the number of payroll jobs fell by more than 200,000.

Why is it the mex can find a job here? Some folks get to picky about a job...If you need to pay your bills take what you can & get something better later on...My daddy told me any job is better than no job..If you don't work you don't eat..That policy would put many tv watchers to work.

I would think the un-employed

I would think the un-employed construction folks would spend their time making sure the illegal aliens are arrested and sent out of the area. If we made things bad enough for the illegal aliens they would leave. Have a fine system for those who employ them and after of couple of violations take away their business license. I hear that places that have gotten tough have gotten rid of their illegals. Someone locally needs to take up that cause. If someone ran for office stating that was their goal they would get most of the votes don't you think?

To get work in the

To get work in the construction speaking Spanish has become a job requirment . Illegals in the workforce have became a comodity for construction companys ... The decision to skirt labor laws can be very profitable but can't be done without a workforce that has no voice ...Honest employers who follow regulations are at a loss to compete, with no law enforcement no name workers are moved site to site like bootleg livestock .. If you want to work in the trades you either shut up and work where you can or speak up and give up a paycheck ...

there is laws against

there is laws against illegals, gut the government won't enforce the laws that they made cuz it is a vote for their party. Alot get employed cuz they will work for a lot less money and they get by- by taking those wages cuz they live 10 - 20 or more to a house. No man can take those wages when it should be more and raise his wife and kids and pay the bills. We the American worker are getting the shaft from the government and we all know what party caters to them so they can get their vote. Have one get into a car wreck with you and they will not have a license, insurance the cops will do nothing cuz they will go back to Mexico and come back some where else. I say Immigration should get rid of them cuz they are ruining this country. Some just don't realize how much money is lost by letting them stay and the government (Dems) want to give them SSI, when they will not give a natural born American SSI.
