A man who tried to hit officers with his vehicle was shot to death by deputies Tuesday night.
Richmond County Sheriff Ronnie Strength said that three narcotics officers went to an address in the 1900 block of Ohio Avenue to attempt to arrest a man on several felony warrants. The officers confronted the man in the front yard with one officer standing directly behind his vehicle and two officers standing on the sides. When the man put the vehicle in reverse and drove in the direction of one of the officers, the deputies fired several shots, the sheriff said. The man continued traveling down the roadway in reverse for about 200 yards before getting out of the vehicle and collapsing.
The man was taken to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital and was pronounced dead at 9:38 p.m., according to Richmond County Deputy Coroner Johnny McDonald.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting, Sheriff Strength said.
The names of the officers and the victim were not released.
When will they learn?
Guess he won't be accumulating any more felony arrests now??
Good job guys. Thank you for your service. RCSD is still #1 in my book!!
Unfortunately it appears that they will never learn to obey the laws and respect others.
When will people learn that you will be shot if you attempt to run a police officer over? Thankfully our officers were not injured in this case... Sad situation, but the guy chose his own destiny and our officers did what they had to do to protect themselves...
They never will. It is a shame that deadly force is the only thing that criminals understand. These deputies place their lives on the line daily for us and yet only get a small amount of respect until we need them. Wait for the surprise.
ispy3u-- I agree with you... Unfortunately we live in a society that looks at whatever our officers do as being the wrong action... They are 'darned' if they do & 'darned' if they don't...Personally, I am grateful to have one less methamphetamine user roaming the streets & doing crazy things--like attempting to run over an officer(s)... Luckily no one's children were outside & in the way of that maniac!
Good work RCSD
Another citizen shot? Another family in morning...another use of deadly force incident...another life, another day.
Justus what did you think they needed to do??? Pat him on the hand..Bad boy bad boy
Don`t do the crime if you can`t do the time...sounds like he wanted to avoid the consequences. Did he actually think...ahhh, there`s the problem, that THINKING part...
of course, an investigation is in order. but, i'm certain that if he had cooperated, he wouldn't be dead today. ultimately, we are responsible for our own actions. i'm pretty sure, that if anyone reading this article were in the shoes of the officers, they'd have done the same.
justus4 - Another POS shot? Another family in morning over the loss of there will brought up son...another great use of deadly force incident...another life not in our society, another beautiful day.
Victim?
Yes justuazz, another family in "morning"!!! Amazing, and this idiot votes!
You are just as much an idiot, and you vote. So at least you cancel each other out.
At "gangsta" meetings they must sit around and tell the inductees, "If the police approach you, just get in a vehicle and floor it. You'll get away from those flatfeet for sure."
ispy and you aren't old enought to vote, so you are not a cause of worry, yet!
Justus, would you rather it be the police officer's family that was in mourning today?
ispy, your 12:48 AM post was great. Why did you have to go and ruin it @ 8:17?
jail or death . he made the wrong choice.good work rcsd.
Sorry the police had to shoot the guy, that is something they will have to remember. On the upside, the thug criminals will weed themselves out.
http://chronicle.augusta.com/stories/latest/lat_101105_arrests.shtml - he didn't learn from his previous run-in.
I'd have chosen the word 'subject' rather than 'victim'. The officers were the victims in this case where the man tried to assault them with his vehicle while trying to flee.
I believe there was still a way to avoid the mans death, My Prayers go out to the family and the officers that took the shot.
Yes, there was a way to avoid the death. He could've surrendered. Stop blaming the police. This is not the officers' fault, it is the suspect's. He made his choice.
And to think we got alll the information (news) we needed without the names/pictures of the officers being plastered all over the pages of the AC......a bit of a change from last week!
LOL! At all the people in here who made underhanded ASSumptions that he was black. LOL
That's mourning dip ----!
Uh oh, Al Sharpton will be here soon. More dumpster fires etc etc
