Patsy Scott, the widow of District 5 school board trustee Joe Scott, who died in July, won her husbands seat in a three-way race this month.
The retired nurse campaigned on continuing the tradition of her husband and ensuring that students have access to resources, keeping parents informed of issues and supporting good pay for teachers.
After Mrs. Scotts swearing-in ceremony, she will take part in her first official board meeting, where policies aimed at everything from saggy pants to mini-fridges will be discussed.
The saggy pants policy will have its final vote and would ban those attending after-school events such as football games while wearing pants that sag so low that underwear is exposed.
The mini refrigerator policy aims to rid schools and board offices of unnecessary small fridges, which can cost the system thousands of dollars in energy expenses.
