HARDEEVILLE, S.C. — An Amtrak passenger train hit a car trying to cross the tracks near the South Carolina-Georgia state line, killing four people.

Jasper County Coroner Martin Sauls III said Tuesday morning thast three adults and a 12-year-old child from Hardeeville in the southern tip of the state died. None of the approximately 20 passengers or five crew members on the Amtrak was hurt.

people dying needlessly is a

people dying needlessly is a sad thing at any time, but there's a reason the red lights come on, the bell goes clang-clang, and the arm thingy comes down across the road. i thought the people in south carolina were sophisticated.

I used to have to go to

I used to have to go to Hardeeville for work on occasion and the Amtrak passes through there at 50-60MPH. If they were local people, they knew it and tempted fate....and lost.
