Sheriff's deputies charged a Madison County man with reckless conduct Monday after a .22-caliber rifle he was cleaning in his home discharged and the bullet hit a 15-year-old girl in the arm.

The shooting occurred Saturday, and investigators decided Monday to charge James Timothy McDaniel, 20, of Neese Commerce Road, in the accidental shooting, Chief Deputy Shawn Burns said. The teenage girl was treated and released from BJC Medical Center in Commerce.

A 14-year-old girl in the home told investigators she and the victim were wrestling and fell on the couch where McDaniel was handling the gun, deputies said.
