Daniel Field’s General Aviation Commission has selected a replacement for longtime manager Buster Boshears.

Edward Toney, who previously retired from an airport manager position at the Clayton County Airport, was chosen during the latest meeting of the commission. Mr. Boshears said his replacement will begin Jan. 11.

“It’s a similar size airport to Daniel Field in operations and they are an airport that also has a major event,” he said. “Like we have the Masters, they have a NASCAR event. The Atlanta Motor Speedway is close to the airport.”

Mr. Boshears, 65, announced last month that he would step down after serving the airport since March 1997. In addition to his years of running the airport, Mr. Boshears is no stranger to flying. He served active duty as a fighter pilot in the Air Force from 1967 to 1973, and stayed in the Air Force Reserve until 1996.

Mr. Boshears comes from a family of aviators. His father, Willis M. "Buster" Boshears Sr., and uncle, Forrest Boshears, were instrumental in the growth of aviation in the Central Savannah River Area. Mr. Boshears' last day will be Jan. 1.

He left his post as executive director of Augusta Regional Airport in February 2008.
