"Saggy" pants issue expected to come up at today's board meeting

The so-called “saggy pants” issue should once again come up at today’s Richmond County school board committee meetings, slated to begin at 4 p.m.

A policy restricting those with saggy pants from entering after school events such as football games is expected to be presented.

The proposed policy - which would be enforced by school officials, administrators, teachers and other school employees on duty at such events - states that all pants, including jeans, must be fitted at the waist and not be baggy or oversized or exposing underwear.

“Provocative clothing and baggy pants that do not fit properly are prohibited,” states the policy that board members will address.

Public notices would be posted at events, and anyone not complying would not be allowed into an event.

Already, a system-wide policy prohibits saggy pants that show a student's underwear during classes. It's up to principals to decide whether students must also tuck in their shirts. The proposed policy for school events outside classes doesn't address shirts.

The proposal to restrict saggy pants at extracurricular school events was first made in an Oct. 13 board committee meeting by board Vice President Alex Howard, who said he had noticed students wearing pants low enough to show their underwear at some football games.

I think it doesn't matter if

I think it doesn't matter if you are black or white i think both races should pull there pants up if they are below your butt and the pockets of the pants and or shorts are behind your knees. It is non-sense to have them riding down that way and so everyone can see what kind of underwear you are wearing.?!

Sagging pants is the dumbest

Sagging pants is the dumbest looking "style" trend I have ever seen in my life. Ladies you should take a stand and totally shun guys that dress like this. They obviously are not putting any effort into trying to look nice for you why would you give them the time of day. Why would any girl want to date a guy that dresses and looks like a bum off the streets.

It's funny how people will

It's funny how people will say they are targeting blacks, but if I was to refer to blacks sagging their pants they'd be the first to say I was racist, because not all sag their pants. So which is it? What a way to identify yourselves, by sagging pants. Yes, all races have pants saggers.

One County Commissioner

One County Commissioner stated the sagging pants was a form of freedom of expression. He is right, but what he missed is it glorifies the "thug life." This came from persons being processed into the jails having belts and strings removed for safety. They have to hold up their pants or let them sag. The rappers took this style to express the "thug life." Now, if anyone wants their children doing that, then we all are in a poor state of being. You see black and white doing this.

Being rebellious as a teen

Being rebellious as a teen and dressing strangely isn't uncommon for most of us, but this "lifestyle" is present among grown men and being passed on to their illegitimate spawn. I find it sad that our freedom of expression has to be policed up because there aren't responsible parents anymore. Everything dumb thing I ever tried I knew in the back of my mind whether it was right or wrong, because my father had taught me. Once I tested the waters and would screw up, I realized he was right. It's so sad that these young men don't have a role model whatsoever in their lives to be that voice of reason.

Nobody wants to see people's

Nobody wants to see people's bare behinds or their underwear, and it has nothing to do with race. It has everything to do with consideration for others, respect for others, and respect for self.
