Aiken Department of Public Safety charged Nickalas Myers, 17, of Aiken with two counts of illegal graffiti vandalism, Andrew Meisenheimer, 18, of Aiken, with three counts of illegal graffiti vandalism, Landon Yarosh, 17, of Aiken, with two counts of the same charge, said public safety Capt. Wendell Hall. Two juveniles, a 13-year-old and a 16-year-old, were also charged in the incident.
Police believe the teenagers spray-painted messages on South Aiken High School sometime around Oct. 23, Capt. Hall said. The messages were not gang-related, he said.
Investigators were able to apprehend the suspects by checking surveillance video at the Walmart located on Richland Avenue around the date of the crime. The video identified one of the suspects purchasing spray paint and other items, Capt. Hall said.
South Aiken High School officials said the graffiti caused more than $1,700 worth of damage to the building, Capt. Hall said.
The adult suspects could each face a fine of $1,000 and between 30 and 90 days in jail.
All three suspects were released today on their own recognizance, according to a jail official.
