Richmond County Sheriff deputies are investigating an attempted robbery this morning at the Family Dollar at 1801 Central Ave.

About 9:40 a.m., the suspect went into the store, picked up several items, then approached the store clerk and pulled out a handgun, demanding the clerk open the register, according to the sheriff’s office. The clerk, who could not open the register, screamed when the suspect tried to do so, and the suspect fled.

The suspect is described as a black male in his mid to late 20s about 5-foot 7-inches tall and between 140 and 150 pounds. He had a goatee, acne scars on his face and was wearing a New York Yankees jacket, which police believe they discovered.

Anyone with information can contact the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office at (706) 821-1080 or the Tip Line at 866-939-5050.

Oh Justus, where are you?? You should be the FIRST one leaving comment. Surely it is the cashier's fault right??

FedupwithAUG

Why couldn't she open the register? I guess the people that own family dollar are more worried about the money then the employee with a gun in their face. She could have been killed.

pommom38

Perhaps she was frazzled beyond belief fedup. There could be many reasons why she *couldn't* open it. I give her props, she did as the woman in N Aug did, screamed at great risk, and managed to avoid injury and theft.
If these thugs start shooting the screamers, I guess they will stop risking there life for a few measley dollars saved.

What about the cashier's description? None of this would have happened if she'd just given up the money. (I'm covering for justus)

lol WP. Nice Job!!

What a bunch of idiots. Never a comment, when the suspect is white. So typical.

TakeAstand

Never a comment when the suspect is white? Please show me those articles where no one comments when the p.o.s is white.

Fedup... remember it is cheaper to replace an employee than it is to replace money or cash registers. A good reason why unions are the only friend of workers.

pommom38

Ah Augusta resident, you shouldn't have!! Lol
I think Ispy was just jealous because me and WP left them out of our comments. Don't worry though, am sure there will be TONS more articles we will be posting on and we'll be sure to include you next time:)

No comment when the suspect is white? Show me a robbery where the suspect is white and I'll comment.

ISYP4U, sorry but your comment is hogwash. Although there are far less incidnets of violence, etc. being committed in our area by whites, you will notice the same type of "put em in jail and let the thugs rot" from many of the same posters, including myself when I see the articles. These types of thugs (any sex or race) do not deserve to walk our streets EVER again. Sex, Race, Age, etc. ALL do matter and should be tracked and studied in an effort to help solve these problems. If you review the tracked violent crimes in our area, you will observe the majority are committed by black males under the age of 30 and yet the black community not only fails to acknowledge the problem (often times black on black crime) but on many ocasions states that the postings of the race, etc. of the criminals is discriminatory or racism in and of itself - this again is hogwash. All good law abiding citizens MUST stand up and say enough is enough no matter what race or sex the criminal is, they deserve a long and harsh punishment for crimes against others or violent crimes.

Good post Asitis, unfortunately they don't want to hear it, especially if its true. Its not a race thing, it is a criminal thing,
