Home invaders thwarted in Hephzibah, North Augusta

Two separate home invasions were thwarted by alert women on Thursday morning, one in Hephzibah, the other in North Augusta.

According to a North Augusta Department of Public Safety incident report, at about 8:40 a.m. on the 1100 block of Seymour Drive, a 20-year-old woman woke up when she heard someone knocking on her door. When the woman walked into her kitchen area, she saw one man standing at her front door holding a serrated knife, and another man climbing in the window above her kitchen sink. The two burglars fled when they saw the woman. The woman told officers that she believed the man with the knife was using it as a burglary tool, and was not trying to threaten her with it. Nothing was reported stolen from the house.

The first burglar was described as a black man between the ages of 20 and 25, with black hair, dreadlocks and some facial hair, wearing jeans and a dark sweat shirt.

The second burglar was described as a black man between the ages of 20 and 25, with short hair and a long beard, wearing jeans and a dark shirt.

The second home invasion occurred at about 10 a.m. on the 2600 block of Ardwick Drive in Hephzibah, according to a Richmond County sheriff’s report.

A 26-year-old woman told officers that she was in the back bedroom of her house when she heard a loud noise. When she walked into her living room, the woman found a burglar trying to unhook her TV. When she asked the man what he was doing, he fled from the house, got into a white Chevrolet or GMC full-size SUV and drove off. An officer discovered that the burglar had entered the house by kicking in the front door.

The burglar was described as a black male with short black hair, about five feet six inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds, and wearing a white T-shirt with orange writing on the front.

Why am I not surprised?

If I heard a loud noise in my house, I wouldn't be investigating it without shotgun in hand and ready to fire. Would it have been legal self-defense if the N. Aug woman had shot the guy coming in her window and then shot the other guy through the door?

what brave little home invaders these guys are, see a woman and turn tail and run, here is a hint, if you are that afraid of women, dont go into areas (such as homes) where a woman is likely to be....we need all of our home invaders to be just like these 3

Kitchen sink guy, yep. Don't think the front door guy though, unless he was in the house. . The guy in my living room, messing with my TV - SHOT. Hydra-Shok is ready when you are. And a shotgun is a great investigator tool. Everyone should own one.

Definitely agree about shotguns. Point and click.

dey be's dead.

but here's a difficult problem ... shotgun needs to be loaded and quickly accessible but not where the bad guy can get to it ... ever ... especially sneaking in and picking it up while you're asleep ...

The officers "discovered that the burglar had entered the house by kicking in the front door. " It sure is a good thing that it was the front door and not the back door or the police might never have found out how the break in occurred! The keen observations of the cops are mighty impressive. Good job guys!

If they come into our homes we have a right to protect ourselves in any way. Hide your guns so Obama won't take them!
