The Aiken County School District was awarded $584,513 in federal stimulus funds by the state Budget and Control Board’s state Energy Office Wednesday to make energy efficient improvements throughout the district.

Upgrades include new gymnasium lighting at all Aiken County high and middle schools, Millbrook and Jefferson elementary, and the Pinecrest and Freedman Parenting Center.

The district will save more than $82,000 annually, according to John Clark, director of the state Energy Office.
