AIKEN – One Aiken County community is bucking the trend of low turnout today.

Ten percent of Burnettown’s 1,500 voters have already cast their ballots for the mayoral and two town council seat races, said Stuart Bedenbaugh, executive director of Aiken County Registration and Elections.

“That will likely be the best we see today,” he said. They could approach the 15 or 20 percent mark.”

The Aiken County Council District 5 special election between Sandy Haskell and Judy Hamilton has brought in few voters as of 1 p.m., Mr. Bedenbaugh said. About 8 percent of the more than 12,000 voters eligible for the election will likely turnout by 7 p.m. when the polls close, he said.

Town council races in Wagener and Monetta have also had a low turnout.

“It will be a tick or two ahead of the primary turnout for most of the elections,” Mr. Bedenbaugh.
