Richt: Cox will still be UGA's starting QB

  • Follow Latest News

ATHENS, Ga. – Georgia coach Mark Richt has announced that Joe Cox will continue as starting quarterback for the Bulldogs.

Richt released a statement Monday saying staff members unanimously decided that Cox gives the team its best chance to win. Still, he said sophomore Logan Gray will get some playing time at quarterback this week.

There were questions about Cox’ position after he was booted from a 41-17 loss to top-ranked Florida on Saturday after throwing three interceptions. Gray also struggled, throwing an interception that was returned for a touchdown.

Richt said A.J. Green suffered a pulmonary contusion Saturday and will not play in this week’s game against Tennessee Tech. He said Clint Boling is probable with a knee contusion and Justin Houston is doubtful after suffering a hyper extended elbow.

Well, the only thing that I

Well, the only thing that I can say is that I realize that Richt is much closer to this situation than we all are, so hopefully he knows best. Even though it would have been questionable, I could see them pulling the redshirt off of one of the freshman QBs, so that he'd have some experience time to start off next year. Second game of the season is with Carolina, and it'd be nice to have someone with experience behind him. Oh, well.

Richt doesn't need to go

Richt doesn't need to go anywhere. Just last year they were preseason #1, he always brings in a top 5 recruiting class, just wait until 5-star freshman qb, Aaron Murray, gets a chance, he's a stud..give richt a break..

CMR loyalty will cost him is

CMR loyalty will cost him is job in the end. I hate it for him, I think he's a good person and coach just needs to make changes needed and they are a different QB, def. coord. and consider a new off.coord. If we don't play one of the QB's now we will be in the same boat next year. Joe Cox is a 5th year senior and never played for a reason, he's no good at this level.

Ricth doesn't need to go

Ricth doesn't need to go "yet", but I would like to see a little more fire in him. Don't go overboard, just show a bit more spark during the games. Way too calm for my liking. Oh, my vote is to give the other QBs a chance. Sorry Cox, but we need a change. What better way to acclimate a new QB than with next week's opponent.

Mainly it is not about the

Mainly it is not about the QB..he's about 15% of the problem. REAL problem begins with the defense. They're SOFT & either cannot or will not put pressure on the opposing QB's. 2ndly The Defensive backs are not skilled enough or have not been coached up to the point where they can press cover at least 1/2 the time so more can be put in the box. Thirdly the discipline on the team is counter productive to becoming a champion.. too much show boating on routine plays & too much mouthing and thug like behavior overall..The offensive line never seems to have NFL caliber players. Ditto for the Corners. since the OL is the MOST IMPORTANT PART OF A FOOTBALL TEAM and the defensive secondary is the 2nd most important then this problem is HUGE..This lack of talent is a function of the inability to properly evaluate the pool of high school football players available. THAT is a function of the overall recruiting competence. (OR LACK THERE OF) It does not matter what type of offense one runs (See GA Tech) execution is the key & that includes not making an overabundance of mental errors. (penalties) Football is not rocket science despite what many coaches believe..it is about BLOCKING & TACKLING

Richt does not need to go.

Richt does not need to go. Anyone that says that does not keep up with Georgia football. They need look a how Georgia has changed since Willie Martinez. He needs to go.We need to find someone to be a defensive coordinator who has experience. If we can get a defense like we are used to having our offense will look good.We have good talent on both sides of the ball and i believe Bobo is doing fine as offense coach we need a defense coach that knows how to coach.I think it would be nice to try to get Tommy Tuberville .Thats just my opinion.
