Allmans studio up for auction

MACON, Ga. — Are you in the market for some history? Maybe something having to do with rock music in general and Georgia rock in particular? Get out your checkbook.

A building that once housed a recording studio used by the Allman Brothers and other popular performers in the 1970s is about to be put up for auction.

The building was the home of Capricorn Records, founded in 1969 by Phil Walden, his brother Alan, and Frank Fenter.

Phil Walden persuaded Duane Allman that year to put together the Allman Brothers Band.

The Allman Brothers, along with other Capricorn acts such as the Marshall Tucker Band, recorded there until the company went out of business in 1979.

The building is scheduled to be auctioned off Tuesday. Property owner Alan Justice says he had hoped to save the building, but the economic downturn made it impractical. He says it needs about $1.7 million in repairs.

Well Cher and Greg Allman

Well Cher and Greg Allman have a son, Elijah Blue Allman. Greg now lives @ Richmond Hill, Georgia, and usually does an annual tour "Greg Allman and Friends". If you're an Allman Brothers fan and the show comes near you, make plans to attend - you will enjoy it. I believe that it was cancelled last year due to illness and I have't heard anything about it happening this year.

As a member of GABBA, The

As a member of GABBA, The Georgia Allman Brothers Band Association, I hope the building will be bought by the same group of folks who have turned The Big House, the home in Vineville Ave. that the band lived in from 1969 to 1973, into a permanent Allman Brothers Band tourist attraction. The Big House Museum is scheduled to be opened by the end of the year.
