An Aiken County teacher accused of having sex with a former student remains on administrative leave with pay.

The Aiken County Board of Education met Tuesday night, but did not make a decision on the employment of Tammy Joy Key, said Cecelia Davidson, associate superintendent for administration.

The board has the authority to suspend a teacher’s pay, but the school system does not, Dr. Davidson said.

Ms. Key, 38, of Cottage Street, was charged with four counts of a lewd act and four counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor on Oct. 20, Aiken County sheriff's Sgt. Dave Myers said. She was released on bail the same day.

The Graniteville woman is accused of having sex with a 14-year-old male student at her home and at Leavelle McCampbell, where she teaches math, between 2005 and 2006, Sgt. Myers said last week. Ms. Key formerly taught at Langley Bath Clearwater Middle School, said Joyce Stanley, the human resources director.
