BEAUFORT, S.C. — A boat owned by a South Carolina fire department is one of two that burned in a fire at a repair shop.

The Beaufort Gazette reported a Beaufort Fire Department boat was destroyed when the fire started at a repair shop in Burton on Saturday.

Beaufort Fire Department spokesman Dan Byrne says the city had used its boat for water search and rescue missions.

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office says the fire started after a 13-year-old boy cranked the ignition of the other boat. The sheriff's report says the boy gave investigators different versions of what happened. The investigation is continuing.
