Thomson softball season ends with loss to West Laurens

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Thomson High Lady Bulldogs experienced their most successful softball season ever, but their quest to win a state championship came to an end with a 5-2 loss to West Laurens this morning.

It marked their second straight loss in the quarter-finals of the Georgia Class AAA Girls’ Softball State Playoffs being played at the Columbus Softball Complex this week. In a Thursday night game, Thomson was blanked 2-0 at the hands of Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe from the Metro Atlanta area.

The Lady Bulldogs, who had been ranked as high this season as No. 5 in the state, ended their season following the loss to West Laurens in the double-elimination of the Elite Eight Tournament. Thomson finished the season with an overall record of 25-7-1.

It marked the fourth time this season that West Laurens has defeated Thomson. During the region tournament, which was played in Dublin recently, West Laurens downed the Lady Bulldogs twice to repeat as region champions.
