Store chain, Roses, returns to Augusta after long hiatus

After nearly a 15-year absence, Roses is back.

The discount retailer opens tomorrow in Colony Plaza Shopping Center at 2115 Windsor Springs Road.

At one time, there were five Roses stores in the Augusta area. In the early 1990s, Roses stores hit hard times and started to close, said district manager Wayne Cox.

“We’re excited about being here. Our company is doing really well now. I think we’ve got a niche for our business. Our customers have been good to us,” Mr. Cox said.

Roses is owned by Henderson, N.C.-based Variety Wholesalers Inc.

Approximately 40 people have been hired to operate the south Augusta store.
