Store chain, Roses, returns to Augusta after long hiatus

  • Follow Latest News

After nearly a 15-year absence, Roses is back.

The discount retailer opens tomorrow in Colony Plaza Shopping Center at 2115 Windsor Springs Road.

At one time, there were five Roses stores in the Augusta area. In the early 1990s, Roses stores hit hard times and started to close, said district manager Wayne Cox.

“We’re excited about being here. Our company is doing really well now. I think we’ve got a niche for our business. Our customers have been good to us,” Mr. Cox said.

Roses is owned by Henderson, N.C.-based Variety Wholesalers Inc.

Approximately 40 people have been hired to operate the south Augusta store.

Grasshopper, I think pay

Grasshopper, I think pay toilets left town with Roses fifteen years ago. They probably did not bring them back with them. But carry an extra dime with you just in case/

those buggers had the nerve

those buggers had the nerve to charge 30$ for a crappy SNES game nearly 10 years after it was out. A great place to find seriously outdated merchandise on the expensive.

I've only lived in Augusta

I've only lived in Augusta for 11 years and there was a Roses off of Washington Road when I moved here. I bought some stuff there when they were going out of business. Maybe they don't consider Martinez to be Augusta........

I worked at ROSES at North

I worked at ROSES at North Leg and Columbia Square and I loved it. 13 years was good for me and I worked for Mr. Cox, he is a very good manager.
Hope you do will and open some more stores in augusta, like down town would be very nice. District one needs a good store to shop in. We have to go to NORTH AUGUSTA, OR MARTINEZ bring one to us and you will get the bussiness. I remember Ms. Reynolds and Mr. Screws, good luck and Hello.

Any new department store

Any new department store opening in South Augusta is great in my opinion. Let's all hope for many more companies to follow. I would love to see Richmond County get it's share. It's long overdue. Maybe we can keep our sales tax dollars here, instead of giving them to neighboring counties.
