A spokeswoman for the Georgia Department of Corrections said Mr. McClain was pronounced dead by lethal injection at 7:24 p.m. at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification State Prison.

Mr. McClain, 42, chose not to release any final statement, said prisons spokeswoman Kristen Stancil, and spent the day talking with friends and family.

The state Supreme Court formally rejected his last appeal this afternoon, and the U.S. Supreme Court – his last legal hope -- refused to intervene.

Mr. McClain is the 23rd inmate put to death by lethal injection in Georgia

A Richmond County jury found him guilty of murder for shooting Kevin Brown, a Domino's Pizza shift manager, on Nov. 20, 1994.

It's about time.

Doyougetitnow

I hope his last meal was a Domino's pizza, delivered. AND he had to eat it all. Rest in Hell, POS. Where's justus4, with his diatribe about the 8th Amendment? Probably downtown protesting this killing of a worthless piece of crap that was wasting air for the last 14 years.

WhatNow

Why did he get to spend the day talking with family and friends? The victim didn't get to say any final goodbyes to his family and friends. When on death row, they should be cut off from all ties to the life they once knew. Their time alive, should be so miserable that they relish the thought of finally getting to die. Maybe cut down on some of the appeals they file...

gomer73

one down, how many more waiting?

smh1164

Justice has been served. Glad it's over. Now maybe some people will stop spewing venom about this.

chloe

Are y'all happy now?

skimpy159

Now, let's clean up the rest of the scumbags sitting on death row and costing the taxpayers of GA 60 k plus per a year!!!

Doyougetitnow

There is no ONE judge, jury or executioner. It is a civil law that claims justice. NOT justus4. It is not "vigilante" justice.

Opinionated one1

I am sure most of us are very happy that the sentence was finally carried out chloe.

walrus4ever

Walk em all to the table

skimpy159

chloe, happy as a pig in shiet!

Dixieman

Chloe, yes! I am!!

SoonerorLater

We need to open an express lane on death row. Justus had nothing to say since this was white guy that was executed, so he had nothing to say about the proverbial AWM. The victim probably died a horrible, painful death, yet these killers get to go to sleep and never wake up again. They should be brought out to the town square and let the bottom fall out from under their feet with a rope around their neck.

Antknee

See ya killer, and I would'nt wanna be ya!

skimpy159

sooner, you have that right!

His father is in my prayers. Mark was a difficult individual his entire life. It is sad, but I am glad his mother (the sweetest, most gentle creature who was taken from earth too soon from breast cancer) did not lay witness to the events of the past 20 years.

And for the individuals saying "Burn Baby Burn" etc... cool your heels. I am a supporter of capital punishment, but I am a Christian as well. This means that I believe in justice, but I also am quite in disbelief at some types of comments on here.

tdp

Why thank you for asking, Chloe.....Yes, I am HAPPY! Happy to no longer have to pay to feed, clothe, shelter and provide medical care to that waste of space known as Mark McClain. Most of all, I'm happy that justice was finally received for the victim's family.

APINGA

I was working the road that night, and prayed we would catch the killer who laughted while shooting Mr. Brown. The next day we picked him up at his job off hwy 56. and I could'nt wait till he died for what he did!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

pizzato

tdp I don't think the victim had a family only his dad who died a few years after this happened leaving nobody.

corgimom

Venom? Who made McClain kill that man. Who made the choice to take the drugs. Who made the choice to rob that place. We are SICK of these criminals killing people. We have HAD IT. It's not venom, it's people that are fed up with the mollycoddling that is done with these people, and how we are supposed to be "understanding" and "forgiving" to these stone-cold criminals. He shot a unarmed man who never did anything to him. Mr. Bacon was just someone working a JOB. Maybe next time it'll be you or one of your friends or relatives that'll be the next victim, and then you'll feel differently.

APINGA

hey JennRae, I was there!!!!!! McClain was a cold hearted calculated killer. Who shot Mr. Brown on his way out the door after he was given all the money and laughed while doing it!!!!!!!!

JennRae

Yes Apinga, I fully realize this. Did I, at any point, say that he was not? No. Maybe read my post, instead of skimming it and you will understand what I was saying. "!!!!!!!!!!"

Grasshopper

I have herd people say the drugs made him kill. He knew drugs made him crazy it's still his fault. If he found Jesus good for him, if not burn in hell.

Thank you JennRae for putting words to what I attempted to say earlier today but could not write it in a manner that wasn't offensive. Your description of the mother confirms how well you knew them. Thats the way I knew her too. I prayed for the victims family as I have for Mark and the McClain family many times since the incident. Many of the post here are so cruel. Do any of you really believe you were hurting Mark? was he reading your post today? Of course not but you've left a bulletin board of material that only serves as salt on the open wound for the McClain family. I think ones preference for capital punishment is up to each individual but the tone of some of the comments here are disturbing to me. I assure you I will continue to pray for Mark's family in the coming days and will also remember Mr. Brown's family each time as well.

An execution like this should be carried out in a public forum. They should have all the school children take off school and go witness events like this. Where are the critics that thought children should be let out of class to watch the Presidents speech. We should bring back public hangings. Something like this should not be performed behind closed doors. The children that commit crimes should see what will happen to them.

May God have mercy on all of us.

Kev finally has justice and his friends (there is no family left) have closure...There is no glee from us in knowing McClain is dead, only a finality...an end. And I agree with JQP, may God have mercy.

lokalloudness

I was glad to be able to spend time with a close friend at Kevin's grave this evening instead of following the execution. Kevin and his father can finally rest. It is over. My prayers comtinue to go out for my late friend as well as the McClain Family who have had to endure the results of their son's actions.
