JACKSON, Ga. Mark McClain was executed tonight, almost 15 years after he fatally shot an Augusta pizza store manager in a holdup that netted $130.
A spokeswoman for the Georgia Department of Corrections said Mr. McClain was pronounced dead by lethal injection at 7:24 p.m. at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification State Prison.
Mr. McClain, 42, chose not to release any final statement, said prisons spokeswoman Kristen Stancil, and spent the day talking with friends and family.
The state Supreme Court formally rejected his last appeal this afternoon, and the U.S. Supreme Court his last legal hope -- refused to intervene.
Mr. McClain is the 23rd inmate put to death by lethal injection in Georgia
A Richmond County jury found him guilty of murder for shooting Kevin Brown, a Domino's Pizza shift manager, on Nov. 20, 1994.
