AIKEN – An Aiken County school teacher has been arrested for allegedly engaging in sexual activity with a 14-year-old.
Aiken County Sheriff’s Office arrested and charged Tammy Joy Key, 38, of Cottage Street, with four counts of lewd act and four counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor, Sgt. Dave Myers said in a news release.
Investigators believe Ms. Key had sexual activity with the child between August 2005 and March 2006 at her Graniteville home. She also is accused of committing lewd acts on the victim between August 2005 and September 2005 at Leavelle McCampbell Middle School, where she teaches math.
She has been placed on administrative leave until the Aiken County school board is able to make a decision on her pay with the county, said Cecelia Davidson, associate superintendent for administration.
Dr. Davidson said the alleged victim has been a student in Aiken County, but is not enrolled at Leavelle McCampbell.
Ms. Key is being held at the Aiken County Detention Center.

I'm a teacher and there is just no way I could ever be attracted to these kids. Ick.

When I was in high school, we had one teacher that I knew of that "dated" a student. Not long ago, I met one of my old teachers and she told me that there were 2 more that did it! Each one of these teachers were heffers, so it didn't depress me much that I missed out on anything! Hey, when your in high school...or in this case middle school...sometimes a student will take what he can get! Still pretty sick though. If I found out one of my kids has been messed with by a teacher, I don't know what I'd do first.
This is disgusting (just like every other case I've read about)! What the hell is wrong with these teachers? I just don't get it....were these teachers really unpopular in school and trying to make up for it now? Is the teaching profession some kind of magnet for predators? I don't remember hearing about teachers doing this kind of stuff (ok, there were rumors about the principal) when I was in school!

I'm refraining from posting an opinion, because she has been arrested and charged, not convicted, so that would be inappropriate. It is unfortunate that readers and posters assume that just because someone has been arrested and charged and it is reported in the media that the person is guilty. Try to remember that people are supposed to be considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law before posting your responses. If she has admitted guilt in this matter, it is not mentioned in this article.

The people that do that are predators. It doesn't make sense to us, because we are not twisted. It's about power and control and exploiting and using someone. Normal adults think teenagers are immature and brainless- because they are- and want adults for mature relationships. These people are losers. They can't have normal relationships with adults, because adults can tell right away that those people are losers. So they turn to teenagers that are young and inexperienced and feel flattered, and who quickly imagine that they are "in love". For the predator, it's all about their selfish needs. They don't have a conscience, it's all about THEM.

I hope someone looked at his grades, tests,and all. I have heard of boys doing this because they did not get the grade they wanted for work not done. It is called blackmail so let s not judge her yet. Maybe she is innocent and I pray that she is.
Nowhere does it say that the 14-year old was a BOY. Learn to read people.....
